Energetic & Accomplished Jazz Band

The band is led by singer, saxophonist and songwriter Kit, accompanied by piano, guitar, bass, drums, trumpet and another saxophone. The swinging tempos, sizzling sax solos and humour of 40s jump/jive star Louis Jordan have inspired Kit to compose his own, critically acclaimed material. He keeps these on the back burner at private functions to concentrate on well-known "covers", but at clubs, festivals and dances audiences can expect more original compositions - or some of his wry updated lyrics to jazz standards.

The repertoire has well over 250 numbers and is still growing. At a wedding reception, they normally play something slow and romantic for the bride and groom to open the dancing, followed by something equally apropos but a little bit livelier. The set continues with material with a good dance groove, probably finishing with a belter like "It's Not Unusual" or "You Never Can Tell" before the first break. At a ball or birthday party, a more upbeat start would be made. Towards the end of an evening "I Wanna Be Like You" is always popular, or something from the Rolling Stones.

Even in their basic 5-piece line-up, Kit always leads the band on Vocals and Saxophones accompanied by Piano/keyboard, Bass and Drums plus one of the following: Trumpet, Tenor Sax, or Guitar. For a 7-piece, all those musicians will be playing. A variety of 6-piece line-ups are also easily arranged. You can choose which musicians you'd like or leave it to the band to pick the most suitable ones for your booking. You can also make as many requests as you like from the repertoire list. The band will play them all if there's time. If not, they'll squeeze in as many as they can. Given plenty of notice, an off-list request or two can often be added. They will normally play 3 sets of 45 minutes or 2 sets of an hour but are as accommodating on set timings as they are on everything else. They usually wear black shirts and trousers with jazzy ties, perhaps with Kit in his 1940s style "zoot suit" but for more formal occasions evening dress can be worn. They bring everything they need with them except an electricity supply. PA, lighting & recorded music to play between sets are all provided. Although the band normally plays for dancing, live background "dinner jazz" can also be provided.

Over the years the band have played most of  London's leading hotels (Park Lane, Berkeley, Grosvenor House, etc), many Oxford and Cambridge Colleges, and elite venues around the country including Beaulieu Abbey, Hedingham Castle, Eltham Palace, the Middle Temple and many more. Other leading venues at which they've played include the Winter Gardens in Margate and Weston-Super-Mare and Bexhill's De La Warr Pavilion. More unusual events and venues at which the band have appeared include the London post-premiere party for "Chicken Run" at the Commonwealth Institute, the Natural History Museum, Greenwich Royal Naval College and brief residencies in hotels in Jersey and Eilat, Israel.

"I just wanted to say a huge thank you for the fantastic job that you and your band did providing the evenings entertainment at our wedding in September. Your set was fantastic, you kept the crowd dancing throughout and the standard of the music was exceptionally high. I have had nothing but praise for you from all of our guests. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to friends in the future, and if I ever have the need for a band at a party, you will be there!"
