Mexteca maintains the unique traditional style of the original Mariachi and proudly present the vibrant and cheerful sound of Mexico to audiences throughout the UK. Band leader Salvador Jimenez Hernandez is a professional and experienced musician from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico and has devoted his life to music following in the footsteps of his father and forefathers.

Mexteca have appeared in a number of cultural and folkloric festivals throughout the UK. They have entertained at many premier and BAFTA parties where they have performed in front of celebrities such as Mick Jagger, Hugh Grant, Leonardo di Caprio, John Malkovich, Benicio Del Torro and Dustin Hoffman to name but a few. Other events include the fund raising Gala for the Royal Academy of Art in front of members of the Royal Family as well as stars such as Elton John and Sting. The cast and crew of the third Harry Potter film were serenaded by Mexteca at their 'end of filming' celebration. They have also performed for the President of Mexico, Mr Vincent Fox, during his visit to London, along with a number of consulate and embassy functions and parties, not to mention television, from trailers of the 'So Graham Norton' show to Hewlett Packard adverts.

Mexteca can perform in any size ensemble from a solo singer up to a 12 piece band, with either an all male line-up or male and female musicians and singers, all in authentic Mexican costume. They play requinto and vihuela [Mexican guitars], guitarron, accordion and trumpet as well as singing. Although Mariachi music is their speciality, they do also play all types of Latin rhythms including salsa, cumbia, rumba and meringue.
