Dixie is also in high demand as an adjudicator for Highland Games and is regularly engaged as an instructor for piping workshops all over the world. He began as a piping adjudicator in 1982, and has served on the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association Judging Panel itself for the last 21 years. Dixie came to prominence initially as Pipe Major Scots Guards when he took the Pipes & Drums to Grade I in four years. In 1976 he became Chief Instructor at the Guards Depot Piping School winning all Scotland's Championships for Grade III with the School band.
As a soloist, Dixie has competed in major competitions achieving numerous awards including the Silver Star at the Oban Highland Games. Dixie's present day accomplishments continue to keep him on a busy schedule, and performances have included playing for the Bands of the Household Division, for the Edinburgh tattoo, for Bells Whisky, for Gala Night at Kempton Park, at top London hotels and on extensive tours of the USA.
